More about
Betty Diller
As Archuleta County Treasurer, I will guard our tax dollars to ensure that:
all funds are properly tracked and reported.
comprehensive financial reporting will be instituted and
made readily available to county officials and the
public.
all investment proposals will be open and public so that
we get the best return possible.
all transactions will be carried out following state statutes
to the letter of the law.

The County Treasurer has a tremendous responsibility. She must provide public services, collect and distribute revenue, manage cash flow, invest public funds for the good of the county, serve as the Public Trustee, provide accurate and timely reporting, and work with all facets of county government. She must also be willing to stand up for compliance with state statutes.

As a business consultant and a business owner, I have worked with many companies in crisis to develop sound practices, straighten out financial messes, reduce indebtedness, and return to regulatory compliance.

As with these businesses, in order for our county to return to financial stability, it is imperative for our county officials to have expediently presented, coherently formatted, accurate, and complete financial information on which to base decisions. As County Treasurer I will furnish information that can be trusted.

There are already fiscal procedures that would have allowed us to avoid or at least minimize the financial tailspin Archuleta County has experienced. Statutes have been passed by our state legislature to provide structure to our county governments. We must bring our government back into compliance with these laws and accounting principles to restore our financial strength.

Accurate recording of information and transactions is nothing new. We do not have to invent a new system. We must simply do the job right.

Expedient reporting is the next criteria to bring us to solid financial status. Reconciliations must be completed on time. Reports must reflect the information necessary for making sound decisions. Without accurate and timely reports, decision making is a best guess scenario.

As custodian of our tax dollars, the County Treasurer must pursue openness and transparency throughout all aspects of the work of her office. At the most basic level, citizens have the right to know 1) where their money went, or 2) where it is and where it is going.

As your County Treasurer, I will:
perform my duties to the letter of the law.
work with all county officials, departments, and agencies to
fulfill the functions of county government.
greatly increase disclosure by taking advantage of technology
available to us .
provide vision and leadership to continually provide greater
service to the public.

Thank you for your vote!
Check back often. We update regularly.
I am excited about the possibilities that lay ahead for the County Treasurer’s office. I spoke with John Lefebvre, Jr., Treasurer of Weld County. John is a major force behind continuing innovations with Eagle Treasurer, the new software we will be using. As one of the most progressive county treasurers, he works closely with Tyler Technologies to bring about increased features and utilities in this software. Check out his website at www.co.weld.co.us/departments/treasurer.

John offered me the opportunity to train in his office. This will allow me to get a jump-start on the software and increase my experience with the duties and procedures of the County Treasurer. Since John knows both our old and new programs, I will become familiar with the differences between them.

The Colorado County Treasurer and Public Trustee Associations will assign a senior County Treasurer to me as a contact and a reference. I will be able to call them or John with any further questions I may have.

Before my term begins I will:
•Train extensively with the new software we will get in February.
•Compare the procedures and features of both the new and old programs.
•Analyze and evaluate methods and procedures to provide our citizens the most                         efficient service possible.
•Research additional ways to bring greater service to taxpayers through technology,                    including eCommerce.
•Work with our Treasurer’s Office for a smooth transition.
•Develop plans to increase the transparency of our county government to the citizens.

All of this at no expense to Archuleta County!

I will bring solid financial practices to the office.
I will be ready to conduct the business of the office.
I will look forward to serving you.

From the beginning of my campaign, I have sought to be professional in conduct, increase transparency, and provide greater public service. After meeting and talking with many of you, I know that you, also, believe these goals are important to the citizens of Archuleta County. I appreciate each of you who support me in bringing these qualities to our county government.

Betty Diller

(Remember to blacken the oval by my name.)

I had the privilege of working with Betty Diller for several years here in Pagosa, and I was impressed with her knowledge, her work ethic, and her character.  But what impressed me the most was her constant commitment to do what’s right instead of what’s easy.  As a former treasurer and CFO, I can tell you that Betty Diller is exactly the person we need as Archuleta County Treasurer.David Minor.
